Tips for Giving

Here are some handy hints for giving:
  1. Make sure you research before you donate. Look at websites, check Annual Reports, call the office and ask where your money is going.
  2. We recommend putting your support towards groups that directly support local communities, groups and civil society and those that have environmental sustainability, accountability and human rights as core values.
  3. Consider searching out smaller organisation that do equally as good work but may not have the public profile of larger organisations.
  4. For emergency relief, consider groups that have been active in the affected areas and ones that will be providing support in the long term and not just emergency relief.
  5. As a donor, you should be aware of and feel comfortable if the agency you are supporting has a religious affiliation.
  6. Is the group you are donating to a signatory to the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) Code of Conduct which ensures accountability or equivalent? To find out go to http://www.acfid.asn.au/code/code_signatories.htm
